Abstract:
The main aim of this research has been to check the arthropod species present into dependences of the University of Valencia and to state its significance as pests. The study area takes in all the facilities of the University of Valencia. A total of 24 insect species, 1 myriapod and 1 crustacean have been detected. Among these species, only some insect species can be appraised as pest and have been target of control programmes. The results obtained allow us to deduce that building casuistry is mainly related to its whereabouts, its structure, as well as its antiquity. In general, the greatest problems have been observed in some facilities as basements, ground floors, warehouses, cloakrooms and gas and water pipe rooms. Some measures, such as structure improvements, sanitation accurate measures, impediments to insect access, modification of advantageous conditions to growth of pest species, can significantly reduce the presence and proliferation of disagreeable species into University buildings.
